Former Chief Secretary Ajeya Kallam on Sunday levelled serious allegations against the TDP government saying the State had turned number one in corruption, but slipping into low depths in development.
Speaking at the “Save Andhra Pradesh” programme organised by the Jana Chaitanya Vedika in Tirupati, Mr Ajeya Kallam said, “While the farmers are worried with 80% of crops not getting the remunerative prices and with 30% deficit rainfall in Rayalaseema and Prakasam districts, the government has gone in for import of agricultural implements worth crores of rupees.”
The former top official alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu government had paid ₹11,000 per sq. ft. for the construction of the Secretariat in Amaravati and ₹700 crore to a single media publication during the last four years. “Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, who had amassed wealth from all the 13 districts, is now spending the money for elections in Gujarat, Karnataka and Telangana. He is thoroughly destroying the administration.” He said it was unfortunate to see one as Minister though he could not even win as a sarpanch.
The former IAS officer said the State government had resorted to ₹150 crore worth scam by purchasing five lakh mobiles at ₹7,500 each as against its original price of ₹4,000. Thousands of crores of rupees were wasted in the name of pushkarams, special flights and camp offices. Jana Chaitanya Vedika State president, V. Lakshman Reddy and former Vice-Chancellor of Dravidian University K. Ratnaiah also spoke.
