In light of theft of three small crowns from a sub-shrine at the Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple here, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has decided to enhance security at its temples by using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices.

The technology will be introduced on a trial basis at the temple. Sensormatic chips will be fixed to each piece of jewellery, which when taken through the main gate will raise an alarm. “We are introducing this technology based on the advice of agama experts and will extend it to other temples after seeing its efficacy,” Joint Executive Officer B. Lakshmikantham said, after inspecting security arrangements at the temple. Special Grade Deputy EO V. Varalakshmi, SEs Ramesh Reddy and Venkateswarlu, and Assistant Vigilance and Security Officer Rajesh were present.
