State Members of Parliament (MPs) have demanded in unison retention of Waltair Division in the newly-created South Coast Railway (SCoR) and connectivity to Amaravati.

At a meeting held with South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Gajanan Mallya and other top officials here on Tuesday, the MPs made it clear that the Waltair division should not be bifurcated and a part of it should be allotted to the proposed Rayagada division.

“SCoR will lose major chunk of revenue if the entire Waltair division is not in it,” they argued.

The MPs also appealed to the officials to allot more new trains to the zone, complete pending projects in the State and improve passenger amenities in all stations.

In all, 18 MPs participated in the meeting. The public representatives thanked the Railways for promoting greenery and clean environment on the premises of many stations in the zone.

Kakinada MP Vanga Geetha appealed to the GM to provide more super fast trains to the State, and ensure that they have halts at major stations.

Rajampeta MP P.V. Midhun Reddy asked the officials to provide connectivity to Amaravati and improve amenities on platforms.

Mr. Mallya outlined the status of various developmental activities, pending projects, green initiatives, and other measures being take by in SCR.

He promised to take speed up works which came under his purview.

“The Kadapa-Bengaluru new railway line and the Phase-I Nadikudi-Sri Kalahasti new line works are likely to be completed by 2013-24,” the GM said.

Nani stages walkout

However, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) expressed concern over pending railway projects in the State, and alleged that the meeting was being held only for namesake. He walked out in the middle of the meeting.
