One held in ATM theft case

The Anantapur police nabbed one Karthik alias L.B. Nagar Karthik for allegedly robbing ATMs on Wednesday.

Highly-placed sources told The Hindu that upon request from Kurnool district police, the Anantapur police arrested Karthik after a chase near Patakotha Cheruvu village under Guntakal rural police station limits.

He was handed over to the Kurnool police, who had formed special teams to nab the accused. Sources said that he was accused in an ATM robbery case besides being accused in several other theft cases in Kurnool district.

However, the Gooty police did not confirm the arrest of any such robber. Meanwhile, Kurnool Superintendent of Police K. Raghuram Reddy told The Hindu over phone that he cannot confirm the arrest of the accused, but a case of theft of Rs. 1.4 crore from an ATM at Nandyal was registered and the investigation was on.

He also said that the identity of the accused in the ATM robbery case was yet to be known.
