Atomic Minerals Directorate’s Director P.S. Parihar on Wednesday said that the country could meet electricity demand with optimum utilisation of nuclear resources. He said that the country had abundant reserves of uranium and thorium which would help produce more nuclear energy.

He was delivering a keynote address over geosciences at Dr. Ambedkar University where he emphasised the need for nuclear energy. He asked geoscientists to gear up for geo-environmental action while protecting natural eco-system. The university Vice-Chancellor H. Lajipathirai said that country would witness rapid progress only when India was having surplus power.

He said that Western countries were able to progress quickly with self-reliance in power sector. He urged scientists to come up with suggestions for producing clean energy as thermal power was not sufficient for the growing electricity demands of the country. Earlier, the university colleges’ principal Prof..G. Tulasi Rao welcomed the gathering. Geosciences department coordinator Korada Sriram participated in the conference.
