APNGOs’ Association president P. Ashok Babu said that all the government employees would stage a protest at the district Collectorates and government offices from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday seeking Special Category Status (SCS) for the State and implementation of promises made during bifurcation.

In a press conference here on Tuesday, he said “This is totally a political issue but after thorough consideration, we felt out participation is important. Our fight is against the Modi government but not against the Centre. In Narendra Modi’s regime States are seen as BJP and non-BJP and apparently Andhra Pradesh is on the top of the list of States that are victims to this strategy,” he said.

“Initially we want to mount pressure on the Modi government by mild agitation without disturbing public services and troubling people. In a week we will discuss with the JAC, including teachers unions, and prepare an action plan,” he said.

Responding to allegations of campaigning against BJP in Karnataka, Mr. Ashok Babu clarified that he took part in the Bengaluru meeting, a small gathering of Telugus, to explain the developments of the ongoing fight for SCS.

‘Ready to quit’

“I did not speak anything about voting. However, this might be against our code of conduct as a government employee. But no civil agitation sustains if it is bound by rules. If you (BJP) think supporting the State is a mistake, I will do it again and again. I prefer my State rather the job and am ready to resign if needed,” he said. He said that employees will take to roads and join the civil movement when the time comes.
