Newborn baby abandoned in bushes

Locals rescued the baby from stray dogs and handed her over to ICDS officials

Residents of Panjuramma Temple Street of B. Kothakota mandal headquarters in the district became alert on Tuesday to the shrill cries of a baby from nearby bushes, coupled with the barking of stray dogs. After a careful search, they found a newborn female baby.

According to information reaching here, the infant was found abandoned around 9 a.m. of Tuesday. Those who had abandoned he baby in the bushes had not even wrapped it in a cloth. A lactating mother of the locality volunteered to feed the baby, before shifting it to the area hospital.

Residents suspect that the baby could have been abandoned as it was a girl.

The area ICDS officials rushed to the spot and said steps would be initiated for the child's rehabilitation.
