Municipal workers allege discrimination

May 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - CHITTOOR:

Health workers at the Chittoor Municipal Corporation on Friday organised a protest meeting at the NTR Bus Station here, accusing Mayor Katari Anuradha of discriminating against them.

Communist Party of India (CPI) Chittoor division secretary V. Nagaraju and YSR Congress district mahila president P.V. Gayatri addressed the meeting.

The problems that the protesting workers highlighted included low wages to contract health workers and non-coverage of certain health risks under the health scheme.

The protesters also requested Chittoor legislator D.K. Satyaprabha to set up a corpus fund for the welfare of health workers in Chittoor on the lines of her Rs. 1 crore donation to the ongoing Telugu Desam Party Mahanadu.

The protest meeting also passed a resolution to join the Statewide stir of municipal workers on June 10 to press for the demands.
