A woman was killed and another was seriously injured when a multi-utility vehicle knocked them down on the Tenali-Vijayawada road near Kolanukonda. Rajya Sabha MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao was in the vehicle when the accident took place
The deceased was identified as Sailaja, 35, while the identity of another woman whose condition is serious was not known.
Police said that the accident occurred when the MUV hit a median while trying to avoid a group of people standing on the road. After losing control, the driver rammed the van into a median and the vehicle then ploughed into a group of women.
Police have taken the driver of the MUV into custody. Mr., Rao was later taken by another car to Vijayawada.
