The YSR Congress sponsored “Madanapalle bandh” went off peacefully, registering partial response on Sunday. The call was issued following the alleged suicide of a weaver Sudhakar Yadav in Madanapalle on Friday in support of the Special Category Status.

Former MP (Rajampeta) P.V. Mithun Reddy and Madanapalle MLA Desai Tippa Reddy led a procession through the arterial junctions of the town. Commercial establishments remained closed voluntarily, while the RTC buses and other transportation modes operated normally. The bandh impact was not felt on the educational institutions as it was Sunday.

Raising slogans against the TDP government, the organisers displayed placards and banners demanding the SCS. Mr. Mithun Reddy said it Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had cheated the people on the SCS despite the tie-up with the NDA government. He mortgaged the interests of the State by limiting the demand to special package for kickbacks and to get a breather from the cash-for-vote scam. Earlier, he visited the residence of Sudhakar Yadav and presented a cheque of ₹2 lakh on behalf of the party.
