‘Signatures will put pressure on Centre'

Sticking to his decision not to append his signature on the memorandum being prepared by Telangana Congress legislators, Health Minister Danam Nagender said such a move would only create an impression of exerting pressure on the high command on the statehood issue.

Reiterating his stand not to join the Telangana Congress MLAs in submitting a separate memorandum to the Srikrishna Committee, Mr. Nagender on Saturday said the APCC president would certainly be authorised by the Central leadership to submit his report to the panel. “There is likelihood of sending a wrong signal to the high command, if another memorandum is submitted,” he remarked. “City MLAs will hold a meeting shortly to discuss the fate of Greater Hyderabad. We are confident that Srikrishna Committee would take note of the feelings of the people of twin cities and its surrounding areas,” he noted.

On the other hand, former Minister R. Damodar Reddy said it was not proper for three Ministers from the region not to sign the memorandum planned to be submitted by the Telangana Congress legislators.

“When the panel specifically said any number of memorandums can be submitted there is nothing wrong in our region's MLAs giving a separate petition,” he reasoned.
