Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Sunday came down heavily on the Telangana government for its “false propaganda” over the higher education council.
Mr. Rao charged the TS government with withholding information about students of AP which caused a major hurdle in counselling for admissions to engineering and medical courses.
He invited Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari for a debate before the media on the issue.
“Being a senior leader, it is unfortunate that Mr. Srihari is speaking lies. The Telangana government has withheld information pertaining to students of AP,” he said. Mr. Rao was speaking after releasing the results of the Intermediate advanced supplementary examinations here on Sunday.
He alleged that the TS government had first taken control of the APSCHE premises and seized all records even as AP was gearing up for Eamcet counselling.
“The AP government sought the intervention of the Governor, after which the Telangana higher education authorities agreed to hand over the records, but they did not do so. They did not allow the AP authorities to download data,” he added.
Addressing a separate press conference, AP State Council for Higher Education chairman L. Venugopal Reddy lamented that though five reminders were sent to TS government, there had been no response so far. The APSCHE had received a communication on June 15 that the date and time of handing over the information could be communicated later.
On other issues, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the government planned to conduct year-long training for teachers to ensure that they were in tune with changes in the education sector. The department will call a meeting of senior officials of the department from Vijayawada, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam on Monday to review the best practices that could be followed in government institutions.
District Education Officers, Deputy DEOs, head masters and senor officials will attend the meeting.
