Stating that the two-decade wait of the poor people from the city to own house had come to an end with the commencement of 4,600 housing units at Parlopeta, MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao on Monday said availability of land was the major constraint in building houses in all urban areas including Kakinada, as the city was growing leaps and bounds.
“I have brought the issue of housing to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu many a time. Subsequently, we have undertaken a survey of government land and spotted this 47-acre site for the purpose,” he said, addressing the public after laying the foundation stone for the ‘NTR Nagar’ residential colony.
Mr. Rao said the project cost was ₹342 crore and both the Central and the State governments would provide a subsidy of ₹1.5 lakh per unit.
Plans were afoot to construct another 5,600 units for those who owned house sites, he said.
80,000 houses
in two years
Collector Kartikeya Misra said the target was to build about 80,000 housing units in the next two years and the ‘NTR Nagar’ housing colony would have all the amenities including play areas and parks.
He called upon the beneficiaries to keep their dwellings clean and use the individual sanitary latrines without fail.
Municipal Commissioner S. Aleem Basha, officials and elected representatives were present.
Colony at Bommuru
Meanwhile, several public representatives and officials in Rajamahendravaram laid the foundation stone near the DIET College, Bommuru, on Monday for constuction of 4,200 houses sanctioned under the Housing for All scheme in Rajamahendravaram Rural area.
Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai, MLCs Adireddy Apparao, Somu Veerraju and Municipal Commissioner V. Vijayaramaraju participated in the function.
Mr. Vijayaramaraju said under the Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana, they had taken up the scheme to construct 4,200 houses with ‘G Plus 3’ (ground and three floors) plan.
Three categories
The construction would be completed within 15 months from the day of beginning of the work.
Three hundred square feet houses with a unit cost of ₹5.75 lakh (₹3 lakh subsidy and rest bank loan), 365 square feet units at a cost of ₹6.25 lakh (₹ 3 lakh subsidy) and 430 square feet houses with a unit cost of ₹8 lakh would be built.
Deputy Mayor Vasireddy Rambabu, TDP floor leader Varre Srinivasa Rao, Corporator Relangi Sridevi, Deputy Commissioner Phaniram and others participated.
In Vizianagaram
Meesala Geeta, MLA, peformed the bhoomi puja for the construction of 4,160 houses under the PMAY-NTR Urban Housing scheme at Saripalli near Vizianagaram on Monday.
The A.P. Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation would construct G+3 houses and develop a township there in 15 months. Municipal Chairperson P. Ramakrishna was present.
Later, Joint Collector Srikesh B. Lathkar and others participated in a video conference with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Collector’s Office.
