Former Telugu Desam Minister Bashiruddin Babukhan died at his residence in Banjara Hills here on here on Sunday following prolonged illness. He was 72 and survived by a son and two daughters. The burial was held at the graveyard in Road No. 12 of Banjara Hills.

Khan was elected to the Assembly from Bodhan constituency in Nizamabad district in 1985 and 1994. He was Minister for Higher Education, Heavy Industries, Tourism and Minorities in the Cabinets of N.T. Rama Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu.

He resigned from the Ministership and membership of TDP in 1998 after the party supported BJP at the Centre. Babukhan carried the legacy of his father Khan Bahadur Abdul Karim Babukhan who formed the Hyderabad Construction Company by pioneering the construction of malls and multi-storied complexes. The HCC created architectural marvels for the Nizam’s State, including the Arts College.
