The city, which usually receives 3.2 millimetres of rain in January every year, received 45.4 millimetres of rain until January 29, according a press release from the Collectorate.
The rain shot up the relative humidity in the city to more than 80%, which lead to fog from the sunrise and until 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
“This kind of fog is rare in Kurnool and requires specific type of conditions, which had prevailed in the city for the past few days,” said an expert.
He added that the city witnessed an average maximum temperature of 30-35°C around this time of the year. But, owing to rain, the maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 24°C. The motor works union president, Pulla Reddy, said the fog was unexpected. Though the visibility was less, trucks and buses coming from other areas could reach the city because the fog subsided soon after the sunrise.“I have never seen such dense fog in the city. For a region known to be hot and dry, this comes as a surprise,” he said.
