Five persons -- two in Kurnool district and three in Nellore district -- died when they were struck by lightning on Monday even as the day temperatures came down slightly at many places in the State. The temperatures were above 40 degree Celsius at some places in the State. Nujendla (Guntur), Pedaraveedu (Prakasam), Rapuru (Nellore) and Vijayapuram (Chittoor) districts recorded maximum temperatures of just over 44 degree Celsius.

K. Ramaiah Nayudu (24) and Hussain Basha (23) were struck by lightning in a mango plantation at Obulampalle village in Allagadda mandal of Kurnool district in the evening. Basha used to work as a mason and Nayudu was a farmer. Both were unmarried.

In Nellore district, three persons were killed and one person suffered burns when lightning struck them in two different rain-related incidents. The incident occurred when 35-year-old Lalitha and her son Madhav (11) took a cover under tree as rain lashed Nagasamudram village in Kaligiri mandal. So did one Praveen Kumar in Renumala village, near Kondapuram leading to their instantaneous death.

Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Authority stated in a press release that there was isolated rain in Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Prakasam, Kadapa and Kurnool districts and issued lightning alerts.

In its forecast for the next five days, the Real-Time Governance State Centre at the Secretariat predicted that the temperatures will touch 45 degrees Celsius.
