CPI(M) State Secretary P. Madhu on Sunday demanded that an inquiry be conducted into District Collector Ch. Vijaymohan’s orders for commencing works of the proposed solar water plant, alleging that land had been acquired for the project without disbursing compensation to the displaced persons.
“According to the Land Acquisition Act 2013, commencement of works should be done only after disbursal of compensation to the land owners, but the Collector has flouted the norms by giving orders for commencement of works on the acquired land,” Mr. Madhu alleged in a media conference here.
Mr. Madhu and CPI(M) district secretary K. Prabhakar Reddy, along with the party activists visited Sakunala village and interacted with the farmers who had parted with their land for the solar plant project.
Alleging that the land acquisition process was ‘smacking of irregularities’, he said while farmers here were tilling their lands, the land encumbrance certificates cited some persons from Vijayawada and Guntur as the land owners, accusing the government of ordering disbursal of compensation to the persons who did not cultivate their lands.
He wanted that the compensation amount for the land owners in Sakunala and its surrounding villages should be enhanced to Rs. 10 lakh per acre from the existing Rs. 4 lakh.
Mr. Madhu further remarked that the response of the Chief Minister to the special status issue and developmental package for Rayalaseema was lackadaisical.
Meanwhile, Bhoo Hakkula Parirakshana Committee has decided to organise a meet in Vijayawada on November 10 to deliberate on farmers’ suicides and plights of handloom weavers in which Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy and former IAS officer Gopal Rao would take part.
