Justice Rajasekhar Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday made it clear that the ongoing web-counselling for filling the seats in engineering colleges cannot be stayed at this stage. The judge reminded of the Supreme Court direction to complete the counselling by August 31.
Justice Reddy was hearing a batch of petitions filed by the private engineering colleges, who challenged the action of the JNTU in not granting affiliation. It may be recalled that 174 colleges were refused affiliation as the authorities reportedly found that the colleges do not have the facilities as required by AICTE.
The colleges moved a special house motion contending that the regulations mandated issuance of notice and giving opportunity to rectify the deficiencies. They lamented that the refusal of affiliation was announced without any notice just before the counselling for admissions. They pleaded that the court stays the ongoing counselling or allot the students now pending further orders.
Advocate General K. Ramakrishna Reddy said the colleges were not imparting education as per the standards and that they should be dealt with as per the law. He reminded the court that the Supreme Court had directed the governments to complete the admission process by August 31 and if the stay was granted, it would violate the orders of the apex court. The case is posted for hearing on August 22.
