The Telangana Congress Steering Committee has asked the party leadership to complete the ongoing discussions being held by party's State in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad with Telangana and Seemandhra leaders by September 17, coinciding with the Hyderabad liberation day.

Steering committee co-chairman and MP K. Keshava Rao asked the party high command to announce a favourable decision on the separate Telangana issue before September 30 failing which the movement would be intensified. In an informal chat with reporters on Sunday, Dr. Rao expressed hope that the Centre would concede the demand for separate Telangana as an overwhelming number of people were supporting it.

He faulted Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao for doubting the sincerity of the Congress leaders claiming it would demoralise those struggling for separate Statehood to the region.

Decrying the abusive language used by the TRS chief, he said a majority of the leaders had quit their posts and were standing by their decision.

Struggle to continue

All the MPs, except one, were not attending Parliament after putting in their papers to keep up the pressure on the Central government.

The entire Congress rank and file, except for a handful of leaders, were bound to continue their struggle till Telangana State became a reality.

“No one can doubt the bonafides of Congress leaders,” he averred. The MLAs and MLCs too were firm on separate Telangana and they adopted an uncompromising stand on their resignations. “They would take an appropriate decision as and when the Assembly is convened,” he said. He welcomed efforts by various groups to mobilise support for Telangana and advised them to forge unity among the ranks of all these groups.
