CBI refuses to give documents to Srilakshmi

The CBI has refused to part with documents with which it proposed to confront in jail suspended IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi and ex-mines director V.D. Rajagopal, as part of examining them in the assets case against Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

The documents were sought on Friday in the special court for CBI cases by the lawyer of Ms. Srilakshmi but the investigating agency turned down the plea on the ground that investigation in the case was pending. The court was hearing arguments for and against permission to CBI to visit jail and question Ms. Srilakshmi and Mr. Rajagopal. The public prosecutor of CBI Balla Ravindranath informed the court that officials of the investigating agency will show the documents to Ms. Srilakshmi and Mr. Rajagopal in the presence of the lawyers. He asked the lawyers to be present on that day.

The CBI had yesterday informed the court that the detainees were found to have processed files allotting mines to Penna and Dalmia cement companies, raising suspicion that it was on a quid pro quo basis for investments in Mr. Jagan's businesses. The agency also said it will be in a position to decide whether to name them as accused or witnesses in the case against Mr. Jagan only after examining them.
