Burglars struck at the posh Padmavati guesthouse complex on Tuesday midnight and decamped with over ₹2 lakh in cash and ten sovereigns of gold from right under the nose of the police in Tirumala.

The guesthouse, meant for the use of VIPs, is guarded by local police as well as TTD Vigilance and Security officials.

The incident came to light when a pilgrim party led by Mr. Vijaysen Reddy lodged a complaint with the local police on Wednesday morning.

According to Tirumala inspector Kondaiah, the pilgrim party who had booked three suites at the Manimanjiri guesthouse realised that they were burgled after they returned from the temple in the morning.

Shaken by the incident, police immediately deployed a CLUES team and a dog squad into action and recovered empty wallets thrown out of the window. The caretakers of the guesthouse were also taken into custody for questioning.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed Sources said that the victims were closely related to a Minister in the A.P. Cabinet.
