Superintendent of Police A.S. Khan on Friday asked people to be wary of online frauds and lotteries. He said several gullible people were paying huge sums to fraudsters, as the latter insisted on releasing the lottery amount only on payment of the stipulated ‘fees’.

One G. Vinodkumar, who received a message from an online lottery firm, paid around Rs. 1 lakh in fee by taking loans from locals of Gullavanipeta. Vinodkumar, who could not repay the loan, received injuries in a brawl and died later. The Srikakulam police have ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Mr. Khan said some Nigerian teams were involved in lottery frauds. He requested people not to respond to unauthorised messages and emails.
