The present budget session of the Assembly will go down as the one that witnessed the maximum number of adjournments, while the volume of business transacted was the least.

Question Hour

Question Hour, an important component of the agenda, was the biggest casualty.

It could not be taken up for 11 out of the 21 days of sittings in the current session.

On all these days the House was adjourned abruptly as the Opposition members stalled proceedings on different issues.

Consequently the House, lost over 50 working hours. And an opportunity lost for considering as many as 110 questions during these 11 days.

With only eight working days left for the session, all the budgetary demands of different departments including social welfare, education and health might get guillotined and passed without any debate for want of time.

On an average, a sum of Rs 1.4 lakh is spent per day on the House during session. An MLA is paid a sitting allowance of Rs. 800 a day in addition the monthly salary of Rs. 1,07,000.
