Union Home Ministry officials call on AP, TS Governor

A team of senior officials from the Union Home Ministry led by Additional Secretary A.K.Singh called on Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan in Raj Bhavan on Friday.

Official sources told The Hindu that the meeting was in response to an assurance given by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to a delegation of BJP leaders from Andhra Pradesh that the contentious issues which remain unresolved between the two States would be redressed at the earliest. Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu and the Andhra Pradesh BJP chief K. Haribabu had met Mr. Singh recently.

The Union Home Minister had on Thursday told the BJP delegation that a nodal officer would be appointed to look into the issues confronting the two States.

It is understood that Mr. Singh referred to issues incorporated in the Schedule 8 and 9 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 were discussed. Eighth Schedule refers to the apportionment of liability of pensions between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana while the Ninth Schedule speaks about 89 state-level corporations that are yet to be divided between the two States.

The meeting lasted over an hour, where in, the strong pitch made by the A.P. Government for special category status, division of assets and liabilities and sharing of water and power were discussed.
