ONGOLE: Kula Vivaksha Porata Sangam (KVPS) along with other like-minded Dalit and student organisations will agitate for justice to the family of University of Hyderabad student Rohith Vemula, who had committed suicide.

Ahead of the first death anniversary of the research scholar on January 17, KVPS State general secretary A. Malyadri told a media conference here on Monday that there had been no progress in the investigation of the case.

No action had been taken against those named in the first information report, including Union Ministers Bandaru Dattatreya and Smriti Irani, UoH Vice-Chancellor P. Appa Rao, he said, adding that the KVPS along with some other organisations would form a front to step up the agitation.

Opposing the State Public Service Commission's decision to do away with the system of reservation in the screening tests for Group II recruitment, he said KVPS activists would lay siege to the State Secretariat if the quota system, which was followed in the past, was not reintroduced.

Extending support to the ongoing agitation by contract lecturers for regularisation of their services, he said the government should consider the just demands of the lecturers as the studies of SC, ST, BC and minority students who mostly went to State-run junior colleges were being affected at a time when their exams were fast approaching.
