A total of 118 cattle roaming on the roads in the town were seized by the police on Saturday night, as they intensified raids to prevent road mishaps caused due to cattle.

Last week, the Krishna district police and the Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation (MMC) launched the drive against cattle roaming on the roads.

Various teams comprising 75 police personnel of Traffic and Law and Order conducted the raids as per the recent guidelines of the MMC. In an official release, Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu said that the cattle which were seized during the raids had been handed over to the MMC, which would impose a fine on the owners for negligence.

Repeat offenders

The SP appealed to people to give up the practice of allowing their cattle on the roads, which was leading to fatal mishaps.

Repeat offenders would be dealt with firmly, he said.
