BJP leader L.K. Advani will kick off his anti-corruption yatra from Sitabdiara village in Bihar’s Saran district on October 11, a senior state party leader said.
Sitabdiara is the birth place of the veteran socialist leader Jaiprakash Narayan who had led an agitation in 1974.
The date and place of Mr. Advani’s rathyatra has been tentatively finalised as a mark of respect to Jai Prakash Narayan as October 11 happens to be the socialist leader’s birth anniversary, state unit BJP president C.P. Thakur told reporters here.
Mr. Advani has planned to ignite the corruption issue on which the Late Narayan had fought for and united the non-Congress political class to unseat the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1977 parliamentary polls, he said.
Mr. Thakur said that the state unit BJP workers will take part in Mr. Advani’s rath yatra to make it a successful campaign.
The state unit of BJP also denied that there was a race among Mr. Advani, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders for being the prime ministerial candidate during 2014 parliamentary polls and said that it was for the party leadership to take a final call on the matter.
