The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday rejected the former Haryana DGP, S.P.S. Rathore's plea for release on parole.

Rathore, 68, has been sentenced to 18 months of rigorous imprisonment by the district and sessions court here for molesting a budding tennis player in 1990. The girl committed suicide three years later. He has been lodged at the Burail Jail here since May 25.

The judgment came nearly three days after he applied for nearly two weeks of parole to look after the crops on his farmhouses. He had earlier failed to get bail on the plea that he was a heart patient, so he needed rest.

Rejecting his parole application, the court said Rathore's act was shameful, so his plea could not be entertained.
