The Indian Railways for the first time will conduct a joint recruitment drive across the country, the examinations for which will begin on Sunday.

Railway Board chairman Vivek Sahai said all Railway Recruitment Boards would simultaneously conduct the exams for various posts.

The decision to hold simultaneous examinations was taken to ensure that people appeared at local centres and to avoid clash of interest that had sparked unrest in various States. Mr. Sahai said the exams would be conducted in phases and would continue through July. The new appointments would favourably impact the safety and security aspects of passengers.
