Following media reports which said that Pakistan has decided not to grant consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav, officials told The Hindu that the decision has not been communicated to India “officially”.
“We have seen this only in media reports,” an official source told The Hindu .
“After due consideration, it has been decided not to grant consular access to Jadhav,” a top Pakistani security source was quoted by prominent Pak daily, Dawn , conveying the latest decision of Pakistan on the issue.
The decision to deny consular access to Mr. Jadhav was taken, the daily reported, in view of the Indian national’s alleged involvement in “subversive activities” in Pakistan.
Pakistan claimed to have arrested Mr. Jadhav in March and telecast a video confession which showed him elaborate his career as a naval official in India and his “subversive” actions in Pakistan. Subsequently, India had sought consular access for Mr. Jadhav and said that Pakistan had “abducted” Mr Jadhav.
Following bilateral meeting between Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar and his Pakistan counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in Delhi on April 26, the MEA had stated that, “We pressed for immediate consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav, the former naval officer abducted and taken to Pakistan”.
