While Mathura was burning, Hema fiddled with her phone: that is how social media users on Friday slammed the BJP MP and renowned actress for posting pictures of her shoot even as the death toll in her constituency shot to 24 after Thursday’s violence during an anti-encroachment drive.

The BJP MP caused some embarrassment for her party when she posted pictures of the shoot of her film ‘Ek Thi Rani’ on Twitter, apparently oblivious to the crisis prevailing in Mathura. After outrage on social media, with many users terming her “insensitive,” and some reprimand from the party, she promptly deleted her posts and appealed to Mathura residents to “remain calm and not get misguided by violent elements.”
Ms. Malini, who tweets as dreamgirlhema, also issued tweets to clarify her stand. “I am a very sensitive person. I am deeply pained on the Mathura incident but law and order of UP is the core issue. Let’s not divert,” she tweeted. She then said she was constantly monitoring the situation on the ground.
“I am constantly in touch with authorities/karyakartas in Mathura. I am on my way to Delhi and will reach Mathura at the earliest.”
