Manipur PCC chief's house, car torched

Published - June 08, 2010 01:57 am IST - IMPHAL:

In a pre-dawn raid, about 10 armed militants torched the house and a car of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaikhangam at Nungba in Tamenglong district on Sunday.

After driving out the occupants, they doused the house with petrol. However, villagers saved the house from much damage. The car was completely destroyed.

Some days ago the house of D.D. Thaisii, Tribal Development Minister, was set ablaze in Senapati district as the Ministers and MLAs of the Congress ignored the militants' call to boycott the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections. However, seven non-Congress Naga tribal MLAs have resigned in protest against the holding of the ADC elections. The Ministers and Congress candidates are being targeted.
