The Government on Thursday urged Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to take appropriate action against the Youth Congress for protesting outside her residence after two BJP MPs submitted privilege notices against the frontal organisation of the Congress.

Describing the protest outside the Speaker's residence and threat to burn her effigy as an "assault on Parliamentary democracy'", Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu urged the Chair to refer the notices to the Privileges Committee. "It is not a personal matter, Madam; it is about the institution of Parliament,'' he said.

The Speaker reserved her decision; stating that she would take a view at an appropriate time.

The Union Home Minister said the two terrorists, who attacked a BSF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, belong to Pakistan. “Preliminary interrogation of the captured terrorist reveals his identity as Mohammad Naveed Yakub alias Usman, a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan. He also revealed the identity of his slain accomplice as Mohammad Nomen alias Nomin, resident of Bhawalpur, Pakistan,” he said. > Read full statement here.
