India Against Corruption member Arvind Kejriwal and his associates will announce on Gandhi Jayanti (Tuesday) the launch of a political party to fight corruption and give an outline of its constitution and vision.
Although social activist Anna Hazare is in the Capital, it is not clear if he will be present on the occasion. He recently parted ways with all members of the anti-corruption movement who wanted to be part of a political party. Both sides assert that there are no differences between them.
On Monday, Mr. Kejriwal met Mr. Hazare and declared that there were no differences between them. “Anna has said he will not join politics as he believes it is not the right direction. Our ways are different but our destination is the same. I have told Anna that I will support him in all his movements,” he told journalists.
Although Mr. Hazare had said they should provide an alternative to the present political system, he distanced himself from the idea of forming a political party and forbade Mr. Kejriwal and his associates from using his name or photograph in their campaign.
Mr. Kejriwal too had stated that if Mr. Hazare does not want them to form a political party, they would back off. But that did not happen and both sides have agreed to disagree.
A PTI report on Monday quoted Mr. Hazare as saying if Mr. Kejriwal were to contest against Union Minister Kapil Sibal from Chandni Chowk, then he will campaign for Mr. Kejriwal.
