BJP seeks all-party meet on Lokpal Bill

The BJP on Tuesday appealed to noted social activist Anna Hazare to end his fast unto death agitation in support of the demand for enactment of Lokpal Bill and asked the government to hold an all-party meeting to discuss the subject.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a statement that the government must hold a dialogue with activists and an all-party meeting to take prompt for creating an institution to probe charges of corruption against persons in high offices.

Mr. Prasad said:

“Today, the entire country expects effective action against corruption, which has become cancerous. The BJP is of the view that such a popular wish must be respected and this indeed is the constitutional obligation as well.

“The BJP wants that the Lok Pal Bill must become an important instrument of credible and effective action against corruption and both political leaders and bureaucrats must be covered with in its ambit. It is equally important that action in this regard must not be delayed.”

People's anguish

At a news conference here, BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the fast unto death by Anna Hazara reflected the anguish of people over the rampant corruption prevalent under the United Progressive Alliance government. Mr. Naqvi announced that beginning April 6 the BJP would commence a nationwide “Jan Sangharsh” (people's struggle) against corruption, price-rise and black money. The campaign would continue for 70 days.
