While launching several projects and laying foundation stone for several others in Kanniyakumari on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “Every Indian is proud of brave pilot Abhinandan.”

He said over 1.1 crore farmers have already received their first instalment of Rs.2,000 under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni had an injury scare during the Indian team's net session on the eve of the ODI series opener against Australia here Saturday.

Dhoni sustained an injury on his right forearm while taking throwdowns from team's support staff member Raghavendra.

The former India captain had a long batting session at the nets and like all first team players was taking throwdowns after the formal session. It was one such delivery from Raghavendra that kicked up and Dhoni was hit on the right forearm.—PTI

Hours before Pakistan's official release of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, Home Guards personnel from Tamil Nadu conducted a special prayers at Kalikambal Temple in Chennai on Friday.

Earlier, students and parents of Kendriya Vidyalaya DRDO and Kendriya Vidyalaya NAL held a prayer meeting for his release in Bengaluru on Thursday. Wg. Cmdr. Abhinandan studied in the Bengaluru-based KV DRDO from classes 8 to 10 and continued his 11th and 12the in KV NAL and passed out in 2000.

Over 8.5 lakh candidates across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry took the Plus Two board examinations which began on Friday.

About 4.60 lakh girls will be taking the exams as against 4.01 lakh boys.

Two transgender candidates have also registered to take the exam.

The students will be writing their subject papers too for two-and-a-half hours. The exams are scheduled to end on March 19.

Officials from the Urban Development Ministry on Friday, March 1, 2019, entered the Herald House in New Delhi  to implement the February 28, 2019 Delhi High Court's order.

The court on February 28 dismissed Associated Journals Limited’s (AJL) plea challenging the Centre's order to vacate the Herald House premises in New Delhi.  AJL is owned by Young India (YI), in which Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi are majority shareholders.

At the Hamilton Test against Bangladesh, New Zealand openers Jeet Raval and Tom Latham put on a massive 254 before Raval was dismissed for 132. The pair added 20 runs more than Bangladesh's total of 234 in the first innings.
