The ruling party legislator and Chairman of Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), M.N.R. Balan, said necessary steps had been taken to rehabilitate the Corporation and put it on strong footing.
Talking to reporters after a Board meeting of the Corporation here on Friday, he said steps had been taken to ensure that the financial position was restored. He said that PTDC had suffered losses to the extent of ₹2 crore due to irregularities committed during the previous regime.
Mr. Balan said the Corporation should have had ₹50 lakh in its account. But irregularities committed by the management during the previous regime had drained the resources of the Corporation.
EPF not paid
A sum of ₹1.5 crore was not paid towards Employees Provident Fund (EPF) during the previous AINRC regime.
The Corporation has started conducting an audit of the activities till December 31, 2016.
Mr. Balan said after he took charge as the Chairman of the Corporation he had brought to the notice of the Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy various irregularities and the Managing Director had been replaced.
The Corporation is now being revamped and the non-revenue expenditure has been reduced from 42% to 28%.
The management has also sought the government’s permission to construct a restaurant, as well as guest houses at the Chunnambar boat house, Mr. Balan added.
