Three die as police vehicle rams two motorcycles, bicycle near Villupuram

The vehicle was returning to Villupuram after escorting Stalin to Puducherry

Three persons were killed after a police escort vehicle carrying CRPF personnel rammed two motorcycles and a cyclist near the Gengarampalayam checkpost in the district on Sunday. The names of the two of three victims were given as Mannankatti, 60, of Maankuppam near Valavanur and Babu, 30, of Kondangi while the identity of the third person is yet to be ascertained.

The police said the patrol vehicle had escorted DMK president M.K. Stalin to Puducherry and was returning to Villupuram when the accident occurred at around 5.30 p.m.

According to the police, the speeding escort vehicle carrying five police personnel neared Gengaramapalyam when the driver lost control and rammed the cycle and two motorcycles heading towards Puducherry. The police retrieved the bodies and sent them to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Mundiyambakkam.
