Students take part in clean up campaign

As part of the Swachh Bharath Mission, students of all government and private schools in Puducherry on Thursday cleaned up their schools and surroundings.

In a circular, School Education Director L.Kumar said, “The Prime Minister of India gave a clarion call for “Swachh Bharat” as a mass movement to realise Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of clean India by the 150{+t}{+h}birth anniversary in 2019. This nationwide campaign is being organised with the participation of all sections of society to rekindle mass awareness to ensure attitudinal change to achieve the goal.”

Education Secretary G. Ragesh Chandra has instructed all schools to conduct the cleanliness drive in all government schools of Puducherry from October 5 to 11. A special drive was conducted on Thursday in all government and private schools with help of teachers, school management committee members, NSS volunteers, NCC ,Scouts and Guides, self-help groups and other volunteers.

C.P.Lailamathy, Principal of Sinnatha Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School said, “Our students voluntarily came forward to clean the campus. They took pledge first to keep the premises clean and started cleaning all corridors, playground and garden.”
