Workers of the National Rural Health Mission in Puducherry held a candlelight protest on Wednesday in front of Anna Statue in continuation of a series of protests demanding the regularisation of employment of staff members on contract.

Around 400 people, under the Puducherry Health Mission Employees’ Association affiliated to the Confederation of Health Employees’ Association, participated in the protest.

Human chain

The health workers have been holding a series of protests over the last few months, including the formation of a human chain on Saturday.

They represent 650 people working in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, an organiser had said.

Among the list of 25 demands is an increase in salary and the formation of a grievances redressal committee. The protests will continue if the government continues to neglect their demands, said one of the organisers.

The workers would decide their course of action in a week’s time, the organiser said.
