Protest against bid to reopen distillery

Govt. urged to rescind permission

A large number of farmers and residents of Lingareddypalayam on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the Head post office here in protest against the attempt to reopen a private distillery in the area that was closed over 20 years ago.

The protesters claimed that the private distillery was closed after the groundwater level in Lingareddypalayam and surrounding villages were affected. However, now attempts are being made to reopen the distillery again.

The protesters demanded the Government to rescind the permission granted to the unit as it would adversely impact the groundwater table in the surrounding villages.
