The government has announced periodic cardiac camps at Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam for selection of suitable cases for free cardiac surgery at the newly-functional cardiovascular surgery facility at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute.
Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Puducherry Government and the Frontier Lifeline Hospital, Chennai earlier this month, five patients have been successfully operated upon in three days, said a press release.
These include four bypass surgeries and an open heart surgery.
Targeted at the poor patients, who are covered under a scheme of the Puducherry government, the treatment is free for these patients.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Dr. K.V. Raman, Director, Health and Family Welfare Services, met the patients at the hospital.
A team of doctors headed by Dr. K.M. Cherian, CEO and Chairman of the Frontier Lifeline Hospital, in coordination with the Specialty Departments of IGGGH & PGI conducted the surgeries.
