‘France ready to take up smart city project’

The Ambassador of France to India, Francois Richier on Thursday said French President Francois Hollande has opened line of credit to finance up to two billion Euros for altogether to some of projects including setting up smart cities in India.

At a function held here to decorate C. Anthuvan, a local carpenter, for his exemplary services in carpentry towards conservation of the heritage of the Union Territory, Mr. Richier hoped that the award would encourage young generation to preserve the heritage and culture of Puducherry.

Stressing the importance of preserving heritage of Puducherry, he said: “Puducherry is close to our heart. Whatever efforts to beautify Puducherry and preserve French culture, we will support and encourage them.”

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy added that the Puducherry Government has been keen to preserve the heritage and architecture of Puducherry.

He also expressed hope that French Government would extend all support to its initiatives.
