The Oulgaret municipality on Saturday launched a dengue prevention drive in Lawspet with the help of health officials, NSS volunteers and school students. Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy inaugurated the campaign at the Lawspet helipad.

Over 900 persons, including volunteers and school students, conducted a door-to-door cleanliness and maintenance check at houses in Samipillaithottam, Kurunji Nagar and areas within the jurisdiction of the Lawspet primary health centre.

Oulgaret municipal commissioner M.S. Ramesh said the area had been categorised as ‘high-risk’ by a Central team during its recent visit to Puducherry.

A large number of plastic tyres and plastic containers were removed and the residents were also sensitised on the preventive measures to be taken. Notices were also pasted in all the houses along with a self-declaration by the residents that they would keep their surroundings clean. Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao and Revenue Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan participated in the campaign.
