The family members of K. Venkatesan (23) of Angalamman Nagar in Muthialpet, who went to Malaysia four months ago in search of better prospects have sought the assistance of Collector D. Manikandan to initiate steps and arrange for his safe return.

In a petition submitted to the Collector on Friday, Kuppusamy, father of Mr. Venkatesan, said that the youth had gone to Malaysia on July 2 through an agent to work in a restaurant. However, he has not been keeping good health for the past one month and has not been able to return to India. Mr. Kuppusamy said that his son suffering from Hemorrhoids was denied proper food, sleep and medical assistance. He is under surveillance all the time and is under constant fear. My son spoke to me over phone this morning and complained about the working conditions in the restaurant, Mr. Kuppusamy said.

Mr. Kuppasamy said that the hotel management had demanded Rs. 30,000 in cash to complete certain formalities in the agreement and a return ticket to arrange for Mr. Venkatesan’s return. The Collector assured them that he would look into the complaint and initiate necessary action.
