The imagination of children took wings on a moving train as they infused colour into a sketch while travelling from Puducherry to Villupuram.

The Pondicherry State Artists’ Society which was hosting the unique event for the 19th successive year had chosen the theme of ‘Clean India; Clean Puducherry’ to coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The children were given a sketch of a boy and a girl cleaning the premises of a school in the presence of an appreciative teacher, said A. B. Ibert, founder of the Society and coordinator of the event.

About 470 school students from 200 schools in Puducherry and Karaikal as well as from Chennai, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Tinidivanam, participated in the event.

The event commenced as soon as the train chugged out of Puducherry at 4 p.m. Deputy Speaker V.P Sivakolundu flagged of the art train.

Participants were given refreshments at Villupuram before enjoying the ride back home. About 70 entries would be be selected and the young painters would be given prizes at a function on November 19, Mr. Ibert said.
