Puducherry MP V. Vaithilingam on Tuesday urged the Centre to provide budgetary support for the revival of BSNL.

Talking to reporters after visiting the BSNL head office here, he said the service provider which was once the market leader in the telecom sector and had earned a public reputation for its services was now in the doldrums.

Dire straits

The employees are in a precarious situation because of its poor financial status.

The Centre must immediately allocate 4G spectrum to BSNL, which would be of help to bring about a change in revenue of the PSU, Mr. Vaithilingam said.

He said instead of trying to pitch Hindi, the Centre should offer 4G facility to BSNL, as the telecom operator was more effective in uniting India. BSNL’s network would also get a big boost if its technology was upgraded. He appealed to the Centre to take immediate steps to listen to the grievances of BSNL staff and provide budgetary support for the PSU’s revival. Jayakumar Jayavelu, General Manager of BSNL was present.
