FIGHTING A MENACE: BJP members staging a novel protest in Puducherry on Thursday demanding steps to control the mosquito menace.

The Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday resorted to a novel protest in front of the Health Department to highlight the apathy of the government in controlling the mosquito menace.

Party cadre got into a mosquito net and raised slogans against the government.

Addressing cadre, president of the local unit of the party V. Saminathan said the municipalities did not have regular fumigation programme and the authorities wake up only when there was an outbreak of vector-borne diseases.

He criticised the government for not taking steps to control swine flu. The virus had claimed several lives, he said.
