All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has accused Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi of misusing her official position to collect funds to clean up channels and ponds.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the leader of the legislative wing of AIADMK, A. Anbalagan, said collecting funds without adopting any procedure amounted to corruption.
The Lt. Governor’s decision to raise funds ignoring the committee headed by the Chief Minister on Corporate Social Responsibility programme was a serious mistake, he added.
Ms. Bedi herself had disclosed that around ₹85 lakh was raised for de-silting channels and ponds following her appeal through social media. Public works cannot be taken up without adopting tendering process, the AIADMK leader said.
The Lt. Governor should disclose details of donors, the amount collected and executor of the works taken up under the initiative, he said.
Urging the government to convene a Cabinet meeting to adopt a resolution seeking a probe into the fund collection, he said ruling party should also put pressure on Union Ministry of Home Affairs to order an inquiry.
Mr. Anbalagan also wanted the government to convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss the issue.
