Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi has directed the Education Secretary to immediately appoint an administrator to address grievances raised by students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College here. In a press statement, Ms. Bedi said that a delegation of students met her at the Open House and submitted a written representation on their grievances.

Ms. Bedi said that a visit to the Law College premises revealed a very sad state of affairs.

The premises was poorly maintained and a new canteen building inaugurated a few months ago remained unoccupied. The college library was also not open to undergraduate students and was only used by 10 students a day out of the total 500. The premises looked like an unattended jungle. The classrooms were without current and students staying in the hostels also complained of lack of basic amenities, she said.

The Lt. Governor said that no rules were framed so far for appointment of a principal for the institution. The Secretary to Education and officers have been asked for an explanation on the current state of affairs, she said. Earlier, the students locked up the gates of the Law College during Ms. Bedi’s visit to the institution demanding that she address their grievances. The police intervened and pacified the students following which Ms. Bedi left the venue.

Ms..Bedi later announced that M.S Ramesh, former commissioner of Oulgaret Municipality has been given the responsibility of OSD in the Department of Higher Education, Law School till further orders. He will over see the work of the current Principal Law School.
